I had a conversation this week with a young colleague that was one of those short but profound exchanges. He shared that he and his wife experienced a miscarriage at 4 weeks. When he told me that the duration of the pregnancy was not long, I responded “Long enough.” He immediately agreed and then shared with me the devastation of that news and the hurt caused by the callous response of his coworkers. This family’s experience is a fresh reminder to me that a pregnancy can be of the briefest duration and still cause such hurt.
